Stay here – San Giorgio Hotel
You will feel like you have stepped into one of those dreamy pictures you see in a glossy magazine. The chill out vibes start at check-in, on rattan pods swinging from the ceiling. Think Bedouin-style white washed villas and rooms, seaside balcony views, complete with hammocks and white muslin cloth curtains gently blowing in the summer breeze. This design hotel is minimalistic and holistic, a chic bohemian retreat with a sensory overload for a hedonistic and chilled out stay in Mykonos.
Heavenly mornings start with an indulgent and healthy breakfast in an idyllic setting, alfresco under shaded covered canopies. Oversized day beds for you and your friends surround the pool and the relaxed bar area for icy cold drinks is never far away. Located by the sea, means that you are only ever a few steps from the water. In between rocky platforms, you can find your very own private deck for refreshing dips into the Mediterranean.
It is the perfect retreat for solo travellers, couples and friends, no matter if you want to relax or party, detox or indulge. Stressful thoughts will simply fade away. Feeling rejuvenated with sun kissed hair and a golden tan, you will soon be ready to take on Mykonos’ infamous beach parties and clubs.
Swim and Party here – Scorpios Mykonos
Everyone, including the world-famous DJ’s who want to play here, have their favourite beach club in Mykonos. You too can be sharing jugs of icy rose and cocktails with 1,000 high on island life party people that have arrived by beach buggies in board shorts and bikinis. It is absolutely fabulous but after a long day and night and that comfy oversized bed starts to call your name, it can be a long, very long wait for a ride back to the hotel.
One of the best beach clubs on Mykonos is Scorpios, located on Paraga Beach. It is also the beach club of San Giorgio Hotel and only a short walk separates the two. Problem above solved!
Open air terraces, day beds and shaded canopies are the best place to lounge all day at their private beach, swimming and listening to chilled out summer sessions until the aromas of seafood on the grill are too much and your lunch reservation at their alfresco restaurant is ready. Make a reservation, its popular for a reason!
Things go up a notch late afternoon when the morning sun worshippers have swapped their bikinis for dresses, green juices for cocktails and revellers arrive glammed up and ready to celebrate under the stars for the ultimate summer night party in Mykonos. The fabulously tanned have reserved their cabanas, settling in as the rounds of drinks and platters of Mediterranean food fill their tables. No holiday to Mykonos is complete without joining the crowds at their infamous beach parties.
Eat here – Spilia Restaurant
This hidden gem in Mykonos is exactly how seaside lunches should be. Located inside a cave on a rocky platform, perched on the water’s edge, opening up to the sea. It is a fabulous restaurant and bar to spend an entire afternoon with plates of grilled seafood, cold beers and icy glasses filled with rose, chilled out music in the background and lots of laughter and cheer.
Arriving at Spilia you may have to duck your head underneath the octopus tentacles that are drying under the Mediterranean sun, in preparation for the grill and plated especially for you. A squeeze of lemon is all you will need to pronounce “that’s the best octopus I have ever had!”. If you order the oysters or sea urchin, the waiters will stand over the rocky edge and pull them up from the sea and sit there freshly shucking your lunch. Plates of crustaceans, whole grilled fish and colourful, fresh, simplistic salads complete the authentic Mediterranean cuisine.
This Mykonos hotspot is relaxed and casual, particularly if the lunch crowd have left their sun beds at neighbouring Agia Anna beach but the jet setting glamour is never far away because remember, you are in Mykonos. Just when you think you are living the life, in comes those envious private yachts with the beautiful people who manage to look effortlessly chic transitioning from bikini to designer beachwear. And that is perfectly ok, because guess what? You’ll be there too plus it makes for the best people watching and celebrity spotting you’ll get in the Greek Islands.
